From July 16, 2022 (Sat), an exhibition will be held at [Ryukoku Museum] introducing Okayama's cultural assets related to Pure Land Buddhism and Pure Land beliefs.
The exhibition is divided into three chapters. In Chapter 2, which focuses on "Hell and Paradise," visitors will be able to experience the "other world" that people have imagined with their thoughts about the next world through "Amida 25 Bosatsu Raigo-zu" and "Jizo Juohzu" and other Pure Land Buddhism art related to Okayama. In addition, there are many valuable materials on the tumultuous life of Honen Shonin, founder of the Pure Land sect, and the Kumanobikunis, religious figures who were based in Okayama.
Let's take a peek into the "other world," where unique Buddhist saints and demons of hell live!
