Reikanji Temple
Reikanji Temple of the Nanzenji School of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, founded in 1654, is usually closed to the public but is open only in spring and fall.
In autumn, the impressive "Reikanji Maple" planted at the back of the pond garden, as well as other maple trees and maples in the grounds, look beautiful with the green moss in the garden. The interior of the Shoin, which was moved from the imperial palace of Emperor Gosai, is open to the public with a guided tour. Visitors can view the temple's treasures related to the imperial family, such as the splendid "Four Seasons Flowers and Birds," said to have been created by the Kano school, the Gosho dolls, and shell-shaped objects. The main hall, donated by Tokugawa Ienari, the 11th Shogun of the Edo Shogunate, will also be open to the public (the main hall is off-limits).
