Saga Arashiyama Museum of Culture
An exhibition showcasing the outstanding animal paintings of the masters will be held at the Saga Arashiyama Bunkakan from July 16, 2022 (Saturday).
Observing and expressing familiar wild animals such as deer and raccoon dogs, as well as moving creatures such as cows and horses that support human life as livestock, has been a theme that many painters have tackled since ancient times.
This exhibition features a large collection of animals painted by leading artists in the world of Japanese art, including Maruyama Okyo's "Inu Zi on Bamboo" (exhibited in the first half of the exhibition), which depicts a lovable puppy, "The King of Animals" by Ohashi Suiseki, a master tiger painter, and "Akino Koshika" by Kijima Sakuraya, a deer with a gentle gaze. The exhibition allows visitors to feel the feelings of the painters who were fascinated by animals and put their hearts into their brush strokes.
