An exhibition of Negoro lacquerware is being held at the Hosomi Art Museum in Okazaki from February 10, 2022. As the piece is used, the vermilion of the top coating peels off to reveal the black of the middle coating. Ryo Hosomi (1901-1979), the founder of the Hosomi Collection, was one of those who were fascinated by the contrast between the full curves and vermilion/black color of Negoro lacquerware. The beauty of the Negoro is enhanced by its use in people's daily lives. The exhibition will showcase the gem of Hosomi's collection, which he was so passionate about that he wrote his own book, "The Beauty of Negoro.
