The golem that was so kind

Remake and re-staging for the first time in 14 years! Europe Kikaku 41st performance "The Golem who was so kind to me" / Kyoto Prefectural Center for Arts and Culture

Friday, September 16, 2022 - Monday, September 19, 2022
Kyoto Prefectural Center for Arts and Culture

The psycho-comedy "The Golem Who Was So Kind to Me" was first performed in 2008. This time, "I want to do a comedy by Europe Kikaku" (Ueda) decided to remake and perform it again after 14 years!

The Golem is a monster made of clay that appears in fantasy and other stories. A documentary crew follows a baseball player to his hometown, where he sees a golem standing in a corner of a vacant lot, and the pitcher begins to talk about his memories of the golem.

At the press conference, Ueda said, "The theme is a giant statue of soil, and it is a fantasy comedy that delves into soil and also delves into memory. Last time we went into the show with a lot of energy, so I wondered what would happen if we performed 14 years later. It's like a group comedy, so I'm hoping we can make it more powerful, with the intention of adding something extra. In terms of the content, I wanted to keep the setting simple and have the actors engage in a roundabout exchange of ideas, so I am reworking it to reflect how it would be done now, and how it would be done with the power we have now.

This is a "group portrait of a manzai (comic dialogue)" by Europe Kikaku, a company that is known for its comedic performances, and is sure to be an entertaining production. Ueda says, "You can look at it from either the golem's point of view or the audience's point of view, but the premise is that it is a comedy no matter which way you look at it!
