Exterior of Dostako Yasaka

Renowned for its authentic flavors! The taco specialty shop [dos tacos yasaka] has opened near Yasaka Shrine.

August 17, 2025: Opening

Tucked away in a quiet back alley south of [Yasaka Shrine], an old traditional house has been transformed into a taco specialty shop called [dos tacos yasaka] (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture), open only during the day. It attracts many international tourists and is said to be praised by those familiar with Mexican cuisine as offering “authentic flavors.” It’s a hot topic because you can enjoy authentic tacos that taste just like they do in Mexico—all while staying in Kyoto.

Dostako Yasaka's Smoked Chicken

Smoked chicken tacos (800 yen), smoked right before your eyes and served fresh. The crispy fried chicken pairs perfectly with the smoky flavor.

“Back in the country of origin, it’s like what we call takoyaki in Japan—something you can casually grab and eat when you’re a little hungry,” explained Mr. Fukuoka, the shop owner. Since you can order as few as one piece, it’s a great spot to stop by when your lunch wasn’t quite enough or when you’re in the mood for a light snack. With a wide variety of options—including wagyu beef, shrimp and avocado, and smoked chicken—you can order a few different kinds and fill up to your heart’s content. It’s also exciting to watch the food being prepared right in front of you.

Dostako Yasaka

The most popular item is carnitas—a classic Mexican dish made with pork confit. The pork, slowly cooked over low heat for several hours, is tender and juicy. The aromatic 100% corn tortillas and crisp vegetables bring out the rich, spicy flavor of the meat, so dig right in!

From left: Pork Carnitas Tacos (600 yen) and Wagyu Beef Tacos (800 yen). The Craft Cola (700 yen), with its subtle hint of vanilla, features the crisp sweetness of Wasanbon sugar.

Our salsa sauce is a preservative-free, homemade creation made with Mangonji chili peppers and tomatoes. If you want some heat, the Dosta Cos way is to add the pickled chili peppers served on the side—not Tabasco. Nibble on them little by little to enjoy the changing flavors.

The owner, who doubles as a bartender at night, makes sure the drinks are always ready. From Corona—with its crisp taste that pairs perfectly with tacos—to house-made spirits and cocktails, everything is on hand. It seems like the perfect spot for those days when you just want to start drinking in the afternoon.
