
After training in his hometown of Kyoto, Mr. Masuno went to Paris, France, to improve his skills as a baker. When he moved to France, he once again realized the beauty of Kyoto and opened his own bakery in Kyoto in 2004, aiming to make bread that is uniquely Kyoto.

The store, which is housed in a renovated machiya (townhouse), is a perfect blend of Japanese and Western styles, with lacquerware-style trays and Kiyomizu-yaki ceramics. The shelves are lined with breads named after Kyoto's traditional medicine, and lovely flower-decorated breads that look like Japanese confectionaries. The bakery is popular among tourists as a place where they can enjoy Kyoto with both their eyes and tastebuds.
