Exclusive to Kyoto! [Tsuruya Yoshinobu] introduces a new product featuring ingredients sourced exclusively from Kyoto...
"We want to delight you not only with taste, but also with sight."
I like Japanese sweets that convey that kind of spirit.
There are some great Japanese confectionery shops right here in my neighborhood, but at [Tsuruya Yoshinobu], a long-established Japanese confectionery shop,
I’d like to share this thoughtful touch that makes Japanese sweets even more delicious.
[Tsuruya Yoshinobu Main Store] (Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) sells sweets on the first floor and features a tea room on the second floor where you can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets.
And believe it or not, there’s even a service where a traditional Japanese confectionery artisan makes sweets right in front of you!
If you have a reservation, you'll have to wait, but luckily it wasn't busy that day, so we were seated right away.
As I waited at the counter, a kind-looking artisan appeared.
The sight of it—which immediately conveys a sense of expertise—raises my expectations.
They made it for us while carefully explaining each step one by one—such as using a bamboo strainer to press the batter out like tokoroten.
Come to think of it, I’ve seen classes on making traditional Japanese sweets, but I’ve never seen a shop where a craftsman makes them right in front of you.
"This is my first time trying [Tsuruya Yoshinobu]," I thought to myself, and before I knew it, it was ready.
She made some kinton that looked like raindrops on hydrangeas.
This is beautiful, too.
It's almost a shame to eat it.
Well, I do eat, though.
You can enjoy freshly made Japanese sweets right there in the tea room.
This tea house features a tea garden at its center, with seating arranged around it, allowing guests to enjoy the garden from various vantage points.
As I enjoyed the traditional Japanese sweets, I found myself thinking back on what I had learned about food chemistry in college.
It is said that food not only provides nutrients when eaten, but also has a relaxing effect simply through its appearance.
At the time, it was nothing more than knowledge I had simply memorized, but visiting [Tsuruya Yoshinobu] allowed me to truly understand its meaning—not just through knowledge, but through personal experience as well.
Take a bite of the traditional Japanese sweets—meticulously crafted right before your eyes by a skilled artisan—served on a plate that beautifully highlights their appearance, all while enjoying the view of the lush tea garden from a tea room where every detail has been carefully curated.
The Japanese sweets from [Tsuruya Yoshinobu], which exude warmth and thoughtfulness in every detail, offer a unique “delicious” experience you can only find here.
If you ever visit Kyoto, be sure to stop by [Tsuruya Yoshinobu].
When I plan my sightseeing while enjoying traditional Japanese sweets, I get the feeling it’s going to be a wonderful trip.
