It is one of the most famous places in Kyoto, known as "Eikando of maples." The precincts of the temple are illuminated by approximately 3,000 maple trees, including "Iwagaki-momiji". The view of the illuminated leaves reflected in Houshoike Pond is breathtaking. Tofukuji Temple is the head temple of the Tofukuji School of the Rinzai Sect of Zen Buddhism and boasts a magnificent temple complex.
From mid to late November, visitors can view the magnificent autumn leaves from Tsutenkyo Bridge in the precincts of the temple, which is also known as a famous autumn foliage viewing spot. The Tsutenkyo Bridge and the Hachiso-no-niwa (eight-phase garden) are the highlight of the autumn foliage illumination. Kiyomizu Temple is one of the representative temples of Kyoto.
