A five-minute walk from Shichijo Station on the Keihan Line, the standing drinking establishment [Kyokusha Sake Shop] (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) is a gathering place for sake lovers of all kinds, as its name implies. About two years after launching its e-commerce site, the store opened out of a desire for a place where people could actually experience the appeal of sake. The owner personally purchases sake directly from about 20 sake breweries, which are called "exclusive sake dealers," and offers a variety of carefully selected sake. The store is housed in a renovated 100-year-old machiya (townhouse), and seven "managers" change from day to day. The store is staffed by seven different "managers" who change shifts daily, including several certified sake sommeliers, who not only love sake but also have a wealth of knowledge about it.
Potato salad with pickled ginger and heshiko (mackerel). Pickles include seasonal vegetables and olives, as well as the more unusual mozzarella and quail eggs. Finger foods include prosciutto ham and salmon on crackers, depending on the season. All basic menu items are priced at 500 yen per dish.
