A new specialty, Onsen-nenai-manju, a much talked-about product in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture, will go on sale on June 22 (Sun.), 2025. The impetus for the creation of this product came from the fact that many people inquire about Kusatsu City, mistaking it for Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture, and many actually visit the city. The development of this new product was motivated by the hope that it would help raise Kusatsu City's profile, even if only a little.
The product is a jyouyou manju, filled with sweet red bean paste. The branding "onsen nai" (no hot spring) has a simple yet funny presence. It has already attracted a great deal of attention on SNS.
