Enjoy a meal full of handmade side dishes at [Nishiki Plain] in Nishiki Market

Nishiki Market's delicatessen specialty store [Nishiki Plain], which has a history of more than 100 years, underwent a makeover about six years ago. Up until then, it had been a retail store with prepared foods displayed in showcases, but since the opening of a dining space in the back, the store has become crowded with a wide range of customers, from locals to overseas travelers.

Nishiki Plain Breakfast

Fish set meal 1050 yen. It comes with salt-grilled mackerel, 8 side dishes such as dashimaki and namafu dengaku, and miso soup with properly seasoned dashi.

Breakfast is a perfect start to the day, with two types of gozen with a choice of fish or meat main dish. The soup stock rolls, which contain plenty of dashi made with bonito flakes and kelp, as well as the kinpira burdock and hijiki stew, are all handmade in their own workshop. For lunch, freshly fried tempura and other items are served at the entrance of the store. The thick-sliced dashi roll sandwiches in the product sales corner are also very popular.

Nishiki Hirano Dashimaki

The most popular is the dashimaki, which is made from bonito and kombu seaweed to create a soft-flavoured dashi.
