Enjoy Uji tea and Japanese sweets at Nishiki Ichiyo in Nishiki Market
Nishiki Market's delicatessen specialty store [Nishiki Plain], which has a history of more than 100 years, underwent a makeover about six years ago. Up until then, it had been a retail store with prepared foods displayed in showcases, but since the opening of a dining space in the back, the store has become crowded with a wide range of customers, from locals to overseas travelers.
Breakfast is a perfect start to the day, with two types of gozen with a choice of fish or meat main dish. The soup stock rolls, which contain plenty of dashi made with bonito flakes and kelp, as well as the kinpira burdock and hijiki stew, are all handmade in their own workshop. For lunch, freshly fried tempura and other items are served at the entrance of the store. The thick-sliced dashi roll sandwiches in the product sales corner are also very popular.
