A space in Gion that revives Japan's ancient aesthetic sense in modern times [Ryurei tea room "Zenbi"]
December 04, 2021 open
T.T," a comprehensive art space by Taiga Takahashi, a contemporary artist based in New York, was born on Hanamikoji Street in Gion, Tokyo. Mr. Takahashi says that living abroad has made him rethink his own Japaneseness and Japanese culture. Recognizing once again that the culture of chanoyu (tea ceremony) is the beginning of all Japanese culture, he decided to create a tea room on the second floor of "T.T." under the name of "Shikarumi" (beauty of nature).
The menu for April features a selection of Japanese tea and cocktails directly from the producers, along with Japanese sweets inspired by spring scenes. Experience the fusion of tradition and innovation in chagashi kaiseki.
*This interview was conducted on March 22. We sincerely pray for the repose of Mr. Taiga Takahashi's soul. The same article appears in the June/July issue of Leaf, April 25, 2022 issue.
