The Gion Festival, a summer tradition in Kyoto, is just around the corner in 2024.
The Gion Festival season, which includes the two days of the Mae Festival (Mae-matsuri) Yoiyama (15th) and Yoiyama (16th), is full of gourmet foods offered by popular restaurants to make the Gion Festival even more enjoyable. Here, we have selected some of our favorite dishes. Don't miss out on the limited-time-only gourmet specialties!

Ailes Shinmachi (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto), which offers authentic French cuisine in an at-home atmosphere, has increased the number of brochettes it offers, which were very popular last year, to four. The menu includes duck fillet seasoned with sherry vinegar and honey sauce, grilled steamed abalone with a refreshing balsamic sauce, and other dishes that are usually served as part of a course menu.

Since its establishment, the restaurant's signature dish has been sui-gyoza, or water dumplings. In 2021, they opened a take-out shop called "Hand Wrapping Studio Rakuzenro" (Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) near the main store. During the "Gion Festival," both restaurants will offer a variety of food items at a flat 500 yen price. Enjoy Chinese dishes such as gyoza (dumplings), shrimp yaki-sai, and xiaolongbao (small basket dumplings), which are perfect for eating on the go.

Veg-Teji-Ya Shijo-Karasuma (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) is a restaurant specializing in samgyeopsal (pork without wrapping is just pork), well known for its copy "A pig without wrapping is just a pig. In addition to samgyeopsal with a variety of meats and toppings, the restaurant offers authentic Korean cuisine and a full lineup of drinks, including makgeolli and chamisulu (Korean rice wine).
