[2024] Let's Reap the Blessings of Kyoto's Gion Festival - Yamahoko Prizes, Chimakis, etc.

July has brought the Gion Festival to the streets of Kyoto. Various rituals and events are held over the course of a month, such as the Yamaboko Junko, a gorgeous procession of floats that is also called a "moving museum. We would like to introduce some of the gifts recommended by our editorial department. Each of these gifts has its own benefits associated with the deity, and one of the best ways to enjoy the festival is to visit the float with the benefit you wish to receive. Check it out before you go to the festival!

1.[The "Kayonowa Mamori" (guardianship of the cogon grass ring) and the "Gion Matsuri Fan" (fan for the Gion Festival), which changes in design every year, are a delight at Yasaka Shrine, praying for the eradication of disease and good health.

Yasaka Shrine, nicknamed "Gion-san," is the site of the magnificent Gion Festival held every July. The "Kayanowa-mamori" is a mythical amulet that is awarded to pray for the repelling of disease and good health. Many people also look forward to the Gion Matsuri Festival fan, the design of which changes every year. This year, the year of the dragon, it features a motif of a blue dragon, one of the four gods, in reference to the legend that a blue dragon lives in a pond called Ryuketsu, located under the main hall of the shrine.
