Jojakkoji Temple

A utopia in Arashiyama [Jojakkoji Temple] illuminated by the transmitted light that pierces through the autumn leaves

Halfway up Mt. Ogura, it is said that the Heian period poet Fujiwara no Teika once had his mountain lodge, Shigure-tei. Founded in 1596, the temple's name is derived from the Buddhist term 'Jojakkodo', which means the most utopia in the world where Buddha lives.

6. Beautiful harmony of wooden architecture and nature

If you go up the stone steps from the Niomon, you will reach the main hall, which is said to have been relocated from Fushimi Castle. Looking at how buildings and nature harmonize beautifully, we realize that beauty that has been protected by human care heals people.
