After a hiatus of about three years, the Spanish bar [sidra] (Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) has reopened. Along with Spanish beverages—such as cider (the apple wine that inspired the bar’s name), cava, and sherry—guests can enjoy authentic flavors like colorful terrines, tapas, and ajillo. Although it may appear at first glance to have only a few counter seats, descending to the basement reveals a spacious floor with sofa and table seating, making it ideal for groups. With its moody ambiance enhanced by a movie playing on the screen, it’s the perfect spot for a date.

The lunch menu has also been revamped, and in addition to signature dishes like the BBQ grilled chicken and grilled lamb, a simmered hamburger steak has been added to the lineup. Each dish pairs perfectly with drinks, which is great news for those who enjoy a midday drink.

The BBQ Chicken Grill lunch set, which includes a salad, miso soup, rice, and oolong tea, costs 1,200 yen. The chicken, marinated for over a full day, is tender and juicy, with a sweet and savory flavor that’s hard to resist. In the evening, you can also order it à la carte.
