Omi Shrine

A festival to remember Otsu-miya in the past "Festival Festival" / Omi Jingu

Friday, June 30, 2023
Festival 11:00
Omi Jingu Main Hall (Naokai/Omi Kangakukan)

The Omi Jingu Shrine is dedicated to Emperor Tenchi, the founder of the Omi Otsu Palace, and is also known as a sacred site for karuta (Japanese playing cards). The Feast Festival is a festival to remember the Otsunomiya of the past by offering special offerings of Omi specialties that are thought to have been eaten during the time of the Omi Otsunomiya. The ceremony includes the dedication of an old-fashioned offering of a shrine by children and the abalone knife ceremony by the Seiwa-Shijo school. After the ceremony, a "nokai" (a traditional banquet) is held, during which medicinal herbal dishes for passing the summer in good health are served, and Japanese dance, folk songs, and other performing arts are performed.
