Shiga Prefectural Art Museum

From July 9, 2022 (Sat), the largest-ever retrospective exhibition of works by Cisco Taumoto will be held at the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Art.
Born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1913, the name "Cisco" was given in honor of her father's dream of going to San Francisco. She married and had a son and a daughter, but her husband died suddenly at the age of 46. After falling ill herself, she began oil painting at the age of 53 to rehabilitate herself, and left behind an enormous number of works over the next 40 years until her death.
Cisco's works are based on familiar themes such as plants, goldfish, and childhood memories, and are filled with joy and dreams. After touring in Tokyo and other cities, five additional works, including "Sunflower and Tree Frog" (1971), which was not shown at the other venues, will be exhibited at the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Art, the exhibition's final destination.
