Opened in 2015 next to the Otorii gate of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, this café is housed in a former sake brewery. It serves Portuguese sweets that are popular nationwide. Paulo, who learned the technique in Nagasaki, and his wife Tomoko, who has been studying Portuguese sweets since she was a university student in Nagasaki and has been in business for over 30 years, opened Castella do Paulo in Lisbon, and after 18 years in business, they moved to Kyoto, where they are passionate about spreading both confectionary cultures.
