The world's first female picture book author? Ihatsu Tsuna - Falling in Love with Cute ♡" will be held from April 15 (Sat) to May 21 (Sun), 2023, at the Shokado Garden and Museum of Art in Yawata City.
During the Genroku period (1688-1703), there was a woman who, if she wrote well, wrote well, painted well, produced Nara picture books and picture scrolls, and wrote educational books for women. Her name was Tuna Ihatsu, and the existence of a female picture book author with a recognizable name in the late 17th century was a rarity in the world, and Tuna may have been the world's first female picture book author. The works created by "Tuna" are all about wishing happiness to girls living in Edo society and gently cheering them on. The exhibition will feature about 30 works by "Ihatsu Tsuna," whose figure has only recently become known. Feel the charm of her paintings and calligraphy, which are full of dainty loveliness.
