京都駅近くの［東本願寺］前に誕生した［Vermillion – station.］（京都府京都市下京区）。伏見稲荷大社で人気のカフェ［Vermillion – cafe.］など3店舗を営むオーナー・木村さん夫妻の新店舗だ。築100年の古民家を改装した店内は、外観から想像する以上に広々としており、1Fはカフェとショップ、2Fはゆったり過ごせるイートインスペースになっている。
窓の外には［東本願寺］の景色が広がり、静かな時間が流れるのも魅力だ。1Fのショップでは、京都らしい手ぬぐいや工芸品が並び、まるでミュージアムショップのようだ。
厚切りベーコンや伏見仙石ハムウィンナーソーセージがのったバーミリオンプレート2200円。プラス350円でパンの追加も可能。アメリカーノ550円とともに
店主の木村さんは、独自のカフェ文化があるオーストラリアで長年暮らし、コーヒーや経営については現地で学んできたそう。コーヒーはカフェラテやアメリカーノの他に、オーストラリア発祥のフラットホワイトも提供。
程良い甘さにスパイスの風味が効いたキャロットケーキ800円と、まろやかな味わいのカフェラテ550円。オーストラリアではカフェラテがよく飲まれるのだとか
看板メニュー・バーミリオンプレートは食べ応え充分な一皿だが、キャロットケーキやライ麦パンのクロックムッシュが同店限定だと聞けば、食いしん坊魂に火がつきそう！
1F、2Fともに大きなテーブルを設置しており、系列店の中では一番広い店舗となっている。「旅先でもほっと一息つける場所を」と語るように、自然光の届く店内は居心地よさを感じる。
