Chirimen sansho is cooked by a lady in the garden of the temple [Shoboin] in Omiya Matsubara. Chirimenjako, which is plump and elegantly cooked, is tangy with the addition of real Japanese pepper at the end. The lovely small boxes are all hand-painted by his wife, with motifs of the seasons and the scenery of Kyoto. The perfect size for small gifts and souvenirs is also nice.
