Strawberries are the fruit in season from winter to spring.
Why don't you taste strawberries to your heart's content? In this issue, we introduce recommended strawberry picking spots in Kyoto and Shiga! We also recommend them for refreshment.
Mimaki Strawberry Orchard is accessible from Kyoto City in about 30 minutes. The sweet strawberries are cultivated on a raised bedding structure so that they can be picked and eaten as they are. The entire inside of the greenhouse is covered with a sheet, allowing visitors in wheelchairs and strollers to enjoy picking strawberries. This year, the number of strawberry varieties grown has increased to six: "Yotsuboshi," "Akihime," "Oi C Berry," "Benihoppe," "Hoshihora," and "Tochiotome. Try and compare different varieties of strawberries.

Osazen Farm boasts one of the largest cultivation areas in the Kansai region, growing approximately 56,000 strawberry plants. Osazen Farm grows strawberries on raised shelves above the ground, allowing visitors to enjoy clean and beautiful strawberries without soil. A total of three varieties of strawberries are grown, including "Akihiro" (the variety grown differs depending on the greenhouse). The aisles are wide enough for wheelchairs and strollers to enjoy strawberry picking.

At this strawberry picking, visitors can enjoy 4 to 8 varieties of strawberries for 50 minutes, including "Mike-strawberries," which are raised with love and care along with the signature tortoiseshell cat, Mikechin. The strawberries are grown with clean water, which is available only in this rich natural environment, and fertilizer rich in flavorful ingredients made from seaweed, which makes them red and sweet. The taste is said to be more appealing, so take a bite and enjoy the "Mike-strawberry".

Strawberry picking at Royal Strawberry Park, located on the grounds of Hotel & Resorts KYOTO-MIYAZU, is available for day visitors. The bright red, large "Shohime" strawberries grown at the park are sweet with low acidity and rich in juice. At the café lounge on the first floor of the hotel, visitors can enjoy strawberry sweets, including parfaits using plenty of "Shohime" from the farm.

Strawberry picking farm opened in 2021. Three types of strawberries, "Akihime," "Benihoppe," and "Yotsuboshi," are available for all-you-can-eat in beautiful greenhouses! Condensed milk and chocolate are also available for purchase, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing flavors of strawberries. Some lanes are designed with wide aisles, so wheelchairs and strollers can safely enter the park.

Berry Farm Uji is located near sightseeing spots in Uji. Four varieties of freshly picked berries, "Kaorino", "Benihoppe", "Amaotome", and "Yayohime", are available for all-you-can-eat in a spacious and clean greenhouse. Even children can easily pick the berries because they are grown on high, and the free toppings of condensed milk and chocolate spray are also popular for their varied flavors.

Momota Farm is conveniently located near an interchange on the Meishin Expressway for easy access by car. The "Akihime" strawberries grown in a high cultivation field are characterized by their large size, low acidity, and juicy taste. Visitors can enjoy picking strawberries for only 60 minutes.

Tanabata Strawberry Orchard in Maibara, where the legend of Tanabata (Star Festival) is passed down. The strawberry picking experience, which can be experienced in a space where a planetarium is projected on the screen, has been attracting attention as a rare event in Japan. The owner of the garden is a carpenter, and the greenhouses where strawberries are grown were designed with his extensive knowledge of construction to cultivate delicious strawberries. Let's pick "Tanabata Strawberries" with high sugar content grown in a comfortable environment.

This hands-on farm facility is known for its direct sales of "honey strawberries," which are characterized by their sweetness and pulpiness, and for its all-you-can-eat strawberry picking for 30 minutes. The "honey strawberries" are grown using only organic animal and vegetable matter and fertilizers made from a blend and fermentation of original ingredients. Strawberry picking fills up early every year, so be sure to make reservations early. Sweets using honey strawberries sold at the attached cafe are also recommended.
