Enjoy even on rainy days! 21 Sightseeing and Experience Spots in Kyoto
In honor of the autumn season of art, we introduce four stores where you can buy tableware in Kyoto City! Add a touch of color to your home time with the warmth of craftsmen's tableware.
In 2021, the store and studio, which had been separated from each other until then, will be integrated with the desire to "reduce the distance between the creator and the user to zero". The shop will be an extraordinary space where visitors can experience ceramics from various angles, including a casual one-day ceramics experience, a ceramics course designed to train artisans, and a food stand where visitors can taste ceramics in "TOKINOHA" dishes with a menu that looks like a work of art.
The "copper" series is attractive for its slightly rough texture and subtle sparkle due to its copper glaze.Cup costs 4,180 yen, plate (12cm) costs 2,200 yen.
By the entrance are simple but core Kyushu ware such as Koishiwara-yaki and Oshikada-yaki. The tatami room is filled with one-of-a-kind secondhand items, and the shelves are filled with vintage Western cups and other vessels as far as the eye can see. The theme of the shop is "things that I like and can use in daily life," and the selection is made by visiting potteries of interest.
Cup & Saucer, 4,180 yen, Omei Pottery, Fukuoka, Japan, has a modern atmosphere. The taste of clay from Koishiwara is utilized.
Mug cups with a rustic texture, slipware oval plates, and other vessels with a sense of folk art flow are lovingly presented. The café in the back of the building offers homemade drinks and sweets, including lemonade, and also hosts live jazz performances.
Small dishes, 1,100 yen each, from Tanzogama, where mother and daughter preserve the taste of folk art. The simplicity of the work shows a glimpse of careful work.
This is a select store that carries mainly pottery from various regions, including Okinawan yachimun and Oita's Oshikada-yaki pottery, as well as other crafts. Currently, about 20 artists' products are available, and the lineup is a pleasure to see at any given time. In addition to tableware, the shop offers glass, wood, and cloth crafts, all of which are full of flavor and the charm of handmade work.
Mug, 4,400 yen, soda glaze fired in a wood-fired kiln gives it a unique texture. This is the work of Tennobu Tokuba of Tsukumo Kiln, a pottery company in Kobe City.
