Karasuma Oike's [Western food and wine Ao] is a great place to spare no effort...
July 27, 2023 open
One street north of Kawaramachi Gojo, you will see the Kawaramachi Matsubara intersection. About 100 meters to the west of this intersection is Momiji no Koji, a corner of the Kawaramachi Gojo district where many stores in traditional Kyoto machiya houses are located. At the far end of the alley is Nagago, a Western-style restaurant that opened this July.
I thought it would be an interesting combination of a machiya and a Western-style restaurant," says owner Matsumoto, explaining why he opened the restaurant here.
Matsumoto is an unquestionably skilled Western-style chef, having served as manager at Bistro Sept, which regrettably closed about three years ago.
The hamburger steak, based on a recipe from that time, is the first item on the lunch menu, and again greets customers as a specialty.
The hamburger steak is made from a 50-50 blend of Japanese beef and happy pig from Fukudome Kohanchi in Kagoshima, which is known for its "superb fatty meat. The meat itself is packed with deliciousness.
For dinner, we offer a variety of a la carte dishes featuring seasonal ingredients from all over Japan. You are sure to have a good night with wine and other alcoholic beverages.
