[THE HIGASHIYAMA CLUB by HAPPO-EN] has opened as an experiential facility showcasing Japanese culture and the culinary traditions of Kyoto

Set against the backdrop of a historic mansion in Higashiyama, [Shukuen]—long beloved as a wedding venue—will be rebranded as [THE HIGASHIYAMA CLUB by HAPPO-EN] (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) on Sunday, March 1, 2026, with a completely revamped service offering. While retaining its existing wedding services, the venue will evolve into a new multi-purpose facility centered on “cuisine” and “Japanese cultural experiences.”

THE KAISEKI

The highlight is the restaurant [THE KAISEKI]. In a space overlooking a garden that reflects Kyoto’s four seasons, guests can leisurely savor a course menu crafted with great care by the chef. This renovation has placed a particular emphasis on the cuisine. Under the theme of “KYOTO CUISINE,” the chefs personally visit producers in Kyoto, engaging in repeated dialogue in the fields and on-site to convey not only the flavors but also the producers’ thoughts and stories through their dishes. Going beyond simply using locally sourced ingredients, each dish—created in collaboration with the producers—promises to be a special experience unique to this region.

A coffee shop where you can pop in even more casually [THE KISSA] The venue offers sweets and afternoon tea infused with traditional Japanese elements. It looks set to become a popular spot for taking a break while sightseeing.
*THE KAISEKI and THE KISSA will open on Monday, March 2.

From tea ceremony and calligraphy to ink wash painting and sushi-rolling workshops, spending time experiencing Japanese culture in spaces that make the most of gardens and historic architecture creates special memories that are a cut above ordinary sightseeing. With the capacity to accommodate groups ranging from 2 to about 100 people, these programs are suitable for everything from individual travelers to business events.
