The "Kanji of the Year," which expresses the state of the world this year, will be announced at Kiyomizu Temple on December 12, 2024 (Thursday). The kanji that best represents the year and the reason for its selection will be engraved as the "Kanji of the Year".
This year's contest will mark the 30th anniversary since its inception in 1995, and is an opportunity to look back on the events, trends, and social movements that have taken place in the world, and to think about the "coming year. Only one Kanji character is allowed per application.
Multiple entries by the same person are acceptable, but only one vote is valid for the same Kanji character.
