The "Oike Tea Party

Report on "Oike Tea Ceremony! Experience the culture of life that satisfies the five senses!

Kyoto City has been promoting "lifestyle culture" such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement, calligraphy, and food culture since the relocation of the Agency for Cultural Affairs to Kyoto in March 2023. As part of such efforts, Kyoto City held a tea ceremony for beginners called "Oike Tea Ceremony" on September 23 and 24, 2023, in a Japanese-style room at the Kyoto City Hall Main Office Building.

More than 800 people applied for the tea ceremony, of which a total of 240 were selected to participate. University students from Kyoto's tea ceremony clubs and circles served as master of ceremonies and performed in a solemn atmosphere, while participants enjoyed tea prepared by the students. The tea ceremony was completely different depending on the group, with different sweets, teas, and other items.

The "KYOTO Sustainable Network," an organization that brings together inheritors of traditional culture in Kyoto to promote sustainable activities, performed chanting and kotsuzumi and koto music, and a talk show was held between members of the "KYOTO Sustainable Network" and students. Ikebana works by Senko Ikenobo were displayed at the central entrance on the first floor of the main building, and by Ryuho Sasaoka in front of the Seisho Room on the fourth floor of the main building. The flower vases were made by ceramic artist Suwa Suzan, and the sill plates by lacquer craft artist Miki Hyoetsu, adding a touch of glamour to the venue through collaboration among the members of the "KYOTO Sustainable Network.

Kyoto City is constantly updating its official website, Instagram, and Facebook with events to familiarize oneself with lifestyle and culture, and is also running a hashtag campaign on Instagram until October 8 (Sun.) to win prizes related to lifestyle and culture, hereCheck it out from
