Byodoin was originally established in 1052 when Yorimichi Fujiwara converted Uji-den, the villa of his father, Michinaga Fujiwara, into a temple.
This year, a special nighttime viewing, "Zuiko Terujin - Nishiki Autumn Light" will be held again. The autumn leaves and the Phoenix Hall (a national treasure) built on the island of Ajiike will be illuminated, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The scenic garden and museum Hoshokan will be open to the public.
