{"id":15468,"date":"2019-11-18T09:32:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T00:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leafkyoto.net\/makai\/2019\/11\/koshikakeishi\/"},"modified":"2019-11-18T09:32:06","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T00:32:06","slug":"koshikakeishi","status":"publish","type":"makai","link":"https:\/\/www.leafkyoto.net\/en\/makai\/2019\/11\/koshikakeishi\/","title":{"rendered":"Koshikakeishi,\" a stone for sitting on the Kougen Ancient Trail in Keihoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was about 670 years ago, a time unprecedented in our country's history, when there were two Imperial Courts, the Northern and Southern Dynasties, which competed with each other for supremacy.<strong>Emperor Kogon, the first emperor of the Northern Dynasty, who was installed by the 14th regent of the Kamakura Shogunate, Hojo Takatoki, also led a tumultuous life, being both enthroned and imprisoned by the upheavals of the Northern and Southern dynasties.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a gruesome anecdote of the time, Emperor Kogon was himself wounded during the downfall of the Kamakura Shogunate and witnessed the suicide of more than 400 Kamakura samurai. He was so distressed by the loss of many more lives during the ensuing upheavals that he shaved his head and became the Pope, and set out on a pilgrimage accompanied by his attendant monk Junkaku to mourn the souls of those killed in the upheavals. In his later years, he crossed Matsuo Pass and arrived at Yamakunisho, the present-day<strong>Keihoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City<\/strong>was.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d209145.7902992506!2d135.62851645251322!3d35.00913387494323!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x6001b2f364ccb4cb%3A0x94f83b29355d5492!2z5Lqs6YO95biC5Y-z5Lqs5Yy65b255omAIOS6rOWMl-WHuuW8teaJgA!5e0!3m2!1sja!2sjp!4v1574060127439!5m2!1sja!2sjp\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\"><\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When His Holiness proceeded up the mountain path, looking out over the countryside from the Kamikatsuragawa (Oigawa) River, his field of vision suddenly opened up. He saw the beauty of the Kyoboku mountains and villages, and the abundance of water, and said, \"Behold, Junkaku. From this place, the mountains block the north and the water flows toward the south.<strong>Nanao Shichitani, there must be a Buddha or a Bodhisattva in the bosom of that mountain.<\/strong>The town of Keihokucho, Kyoto, was admired by the local people, who said, \"I am very proud of my hometown,<strong>I could sit on a stone nearby and admire the scenery for a while.<\/strong>It is conveyed as.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.leafkyoto.net\/leaf\/wp-content\/uploads\/makai\/2019\/11\/koshikakeishi01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1038 aligncenter\" \/><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">The riverbanks of the Kamikatsuragawa River (Oigawa River)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Later, an unknowing traveler passed by and sat down on the stone on which H.H. Kogon was sitting to rest. When he tried to stand up, his buttocks stuck to the stone and would not come off. Since then, local people have kept the stone,<strong>The stone was called \"Kougen-sama no koshikakeishi,\" or \"the stone on which the Lord Kougen sits,\" and was revered as a precious stone.<\/strong>They were afraid that common people would sit on them, and if they did, it was rumored that their buttocks would get stuck to them, so they never sat on them.
