Enjoy an elegant breakfast at [Kyoto Gyoen]! New menu items at the restaurant...
July 15, 2026: Open
A coffee and pastry shop called [homi bake, coffee] (Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) has opened near the [Kyoto Imperial Park]. The name is derived from “homey,” which means “cozy.” With its white-tiled counter and wooden fixtures, the interior lives up to its name as a relaxing and comforting space.
The coffee, hand-brewed one cup at a time by owner Mr. Hashimoto—a former barista—features a lineup carefully selected to pair well with baked goods. The single-origin coffee from [townsfolk coffee] in Ishikawa, Mr. Hashimoto’s hometown, is lightly roasted with minimal bitterness and boasts a refreshing flavor.
Hashimoto’s baked goods are also packed with her unique touches. Take her scones, for example: “So you’ll want to eat them for breakfast every day,” she says, she uses rice bran oil instead of butter to give them a deliberately light texture. Since you can enjoy their crispy texture without having to reheat them, they’re perfect for takeout.
The scone (650 yen) is served with seasonal jam and sour cream. Today’s jam was fig. For those who don’t like coffee or tea, we also offer seasonal juices. Our limited-time, homemade plum soda (630 yen) will soothe you with its refreshing tartness and gentle sweetness.
The carrot cake with cheese cream (630 yen) has a moist, tender texture. Large walnuts add a nice touch. When enjoyed with a single-origin coffee (600 yen), the subtle aroma of spices harmonizes with the coffee’s gentle acidity.
The display case features 6 to 7 different kinds of baked goods—such as pound cake, shortbread, and muffins—which change daily. It might be fun to stop by and see what’s available that day.
