A popular izakaya chain opens a new location—a sophisticated Western-style bar for adults! Raise a glass with carefully selected dishes and wine at [ageru.] in Karasuma.

June 11, 2026: Open

A new restaurant from the popular izakaya group behind [Sakunoki Bingo] and [Sake no Mitsuboshi] has opened in the Karasuma area. [ageru.] (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture), the group’s fourth location, is a Western-style bar offering a menu of dishes that pair well with wine.

With the theme of “Western-style cuisine that won’t leave you feeling heavy,” owner Mr. Miwa—true to the restaurant’s name—has put special emphasis on fried dishes. He uses a special deep fryer that prevents ingredients from absorbing too much oil, resulting in a light and crispy texture.

Our French fries are made from potatoes that have been carefully aged for 540 days—a variety rarely found outside of Hokkaido. Believe it or not, they have a higher sugar content than sweet potatoes, offering a naturally sweet, fluffy texture. Be sure to also check out our other dishes, which feature ingredients we’ve carefully selected—such as Akaushi beef and pasture-raised pork.

"540-Day-Aged Potatoes" (780 yen), best enjoyed with homemade mayonnaise.

The “Tagliata” (1,580 yen), made with rare Aso Akaushi beef, is served with a browned butter sauce. The rich, lean meat releases more umami the more you chew it. We recommend pairing it with a fruity Pinotage (800 yen per glass).

A free-range pork tenderloin cutlet sandwich (1,580 yen), cooked slowly over low heat. It’s incredibly juicy and moist, and while it’s so thick you might hesitate to take a bite, you’ll be surprised by how tender it is—you can easily bite right through it. Our original craft gin (880 yen), with its aromatic notes of citrus fruits like sudachi and lime, pairs perfectly with fried foods.

ageru. Inside the store

The first floor features casual counter seating as well as sofa seating that offers a special, hotel-like atmosphere, while the second floor offers a relaxing, wooden-table seating area—providing a rich variety of options. Whether you’re popping in for a drink alone, hosting a dinner party, or going on a date, this is the kind of place you’ll want to visit for all kinds of occasions.
