Founded in 1974, [Honke Daiichi Asahi Main Store] (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) is known for serving ramen that lets you savor the flavors of Kyoto from early morning until late at night. Located just a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station, it’s exceptionally accessible, and with hours from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., you can pop in whenever the mood strikes—which is a real bonus. The ramen is deeply satisfying, featuring noodles that pair perfectly with the clear soy sauce-based broth and delicate, light-tasting char siu.
[Daiichi Asahi Main Store] has long hours and is closed only on Thursdays, so it’s really convenient that I can go there to eat anytime.
Whether it's for breakfast ramen when I have something to do early in the morning or ramen to wrap up a night out, I've enjoyed it in all sorts of situations over the years.
In fact, there are often long lines of students and office workers starting early in the morning, but since the turnover is fast, you can usually get a seat fairly quickly even if the line is long.
Another major draw is the consistently high quality—you’ll be satisfied no matter when you visit—and the flavors that never get old, no matter how many times you eat them.
Plus, the staff are incredibly kind and cheerful, which makes for a really pleasant dining experience!
Another highlight is that the ingredients used are primarily sourced from Kyoto, and the carefully crafted soy sauce-based soup warms you right to the core.
The noodles that pair perfectly with this soup are easy to eat—whether you’re having them early in the morning or as a late-night snack after a night out—and once you take a bite, you’ll find yourself wanting to slurp them all down in one go…!
It's delicious from the very first bite to the very last, and the sense of satisfaction after finishing it is absolutely incredible.
[Honke Daiichi Asahi Main Store] is a very popular ramen restaurant, so to be honest, it gets quite crowded right after it opens, during lunchtime, and at dinnertime.
If you want to eat ramen without waiting in line, I recommend going a little earlier or later than peak hours.
The best times to visit are from around 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from around 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., though I think it’s still relatively easy to get a seat around 9:00 p.m.
Keep in mind that the "less crowded times" are just a rough guide, so you might want to expect the possibility of having to wait in line to some extent.
But! This ramen is so delicious, it's worth waiting in line for!
[Honke Daiichi Asahi Main Store] is a place I’m incredibly grateful for—not only because it’s open from early morning until late at night in the area around Kyoto Station, but also because the food is absolutely delicious. If you like light-flavored ramen, you absolutely have to try this place at least once!
