September 24, 2026: Open
[Shisan Udon], a popular udon chain that originated in Kitakyushu, will open its second location in Kyoto Prefecture, [Shisan Udon Kyoto Katsura], (Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture), on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Founded in 1976, [Shisan Udon] operates over 100 locations across 1 metropolis, 2 prefectural capitals, and 16 prefectures, primarily in Kyushu. The chain offers a wide variety of udon dishes, including “Niku-Gobo-Ten Udon,” which lets you savor the rich flavor of the broth, and “Kashiwa Udon,” a Kitakyushu specialty, as well as “Ebi-Ten Udon,” “Motsunabe Udon,” and “Yaki-Udon.” One of the chain’s main attractions is that customers can add as much tororo konbu (shredded kelp) and tempura crumbs as they like.
You’ll also want to check out the famous “botamochi”—which sells 6.8 million pieces a year and has been making headlines in the media—as well as the ever-popular “kashiwa onigiri.” In addition, with a diverse menu featuring over 150 items—including rice bowls, soba, curry, and oden—it’s perfect not only for breakfast and lunch but also for a late-night snack after work or whenever you’re feeling a little peckish.
Stop by the 24-hour [Shisan Udon Kyoto Katsura Branch] and enjoy their signature bowl of udon any time of day.
*On Thursday, September 24, the day of the grand opening, we will be open starting at 8:00 a.m.
