On Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, 2026, Kyoto’s largest night market, the “17th Kyoto Night Market,” will be held at [Oto-san Plaza] (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) for two days.
The theme for this issue is “Enjoying Kyoto at Night as a Family: Nighttime Fun in Kyoto for Three Generations.” With Respect for the Aged Day just around the corner, we’re suggesting ways for three generations—from grandchildren to seniors—to enjoy a night out in Kyoto together.
The highlight of the event will be a collaboration with the sister night market, the “Miyajima Night Market,” featuring Miyajima-zaiku—traditional wooden crafts from Hiroshima’s Miyajima—and the famous sweet, momiji manju. In addition, the popular “Shamoji Branding Iron Experience”—usually held at facilities on Miyajima Island—will be offered outside Hiroshima Prefecture for the first time.
In addition, a wide variety of activities are planned, including traditional Japanese sweets, a market featuring over 90 food and craft vendors, stage performances, and rickshaw rides, so why not enjoy this early autumn evening however you like?
