From Saturday, September 12, 2026, through Sunday, November 29, 2026, [Uzumasa Movie Village] (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) will host its first fall event since its renovation, the “Kaikai YOKAI Festival.”
This year’s theme is “Let’s Dance!! It’s Amazing!” Highlights include the Yokai Parade, a new take on yokai dance, and opportunities to interact with a variety of unique yokai—offering a full range of yokai entertainment where you can watch, dance, and engage with the creatures.
The main attraction, “Hyakki Yagyo: YOKAI Parade,” offers different experiences during the day and at night. During the day, visitors can participate in the parade by dressing up as yokai (advance registration required) or interact with them—all part of the hands-on experience—and a new dance program, “Yokai☆Dance Live!,” will also be held. At night, after the yokai have marched, they will put on a spectacular performance on stage, and the event will conclude with the audience joining in the dance, allowing everyone to enjoy the fusion of yokai and dance culture.
In addition, there will be a variety of activities, including the “Mysterious YOKAI Greeting,” where yokai appear in various locations throughout the village, as well as yokai-themed art exhibitions, YOKAI food, and the sale of event-exclusive merchandise. Set against the backdrop of the newly renovated Edo-era town, come enjoy a new kind of “Japanese-style Halloween” that can only be experienced here.
