From Thursday, October 8, to Monday, October 12, 2026 (a national holiday), the “Belgian Beer Weekend”—an event where visitors can enjoy Belgian beer culture—will be held at [Oto-san Plaza] (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture). The venue will feature 97 varieties of Belgian beer across 14 categories, along with 10 types of craft beer from [Kyoto Brewing], a brewery in Kyoto City dedicated to brewing with Belgian yeast. Visitors can enjoy comparing a wide variety of beers, including fruit beers and white beers—which are easy to drink even for those who don’t like the bitterness of beer—as well as lambic and red beers, which are rarely available. The event also offers a wide selection of food that pairs well with beer, including Belgian classics like fries (frites) and mussels, as well as a variety of sausages and cheeses.
Also, as part of the special event “flavors from Kyoto,” which blends Belgian beer culture with Kyoto’s culinary traditions, Kyoto pickle makers [Nishiri] and [Daian] are joining the lineup—so be sure to try some beer and pickle pairings that might seem surprising at first glance.
