Fall in love with the beautiful shrine building, a national treasure [Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine]
[Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine] (Hachiman City, Kyoto Prefecture), located in Hachiman, Kyoto, is a historic shrine designated as a National Treasure, attracting many visitors not only from the local area but also from all over Japan and around the world.

[Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine], whose complex of shrine buildings—including the main hall—was designated a National Treasure in 2016, is characterized by the presence of dove motifs in various parts of the shrine, as doves are considered messengers of the gods.
It is also a well-known fact that bamboo from [Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine] was used as the filament when Edison developed the incandescent light bulb.
You can get a goshuin at [Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine], but did you know that if you ask, you can receive one featuring a dove motif?
When "Hachiman-no-Ōkami" is written on a goshuin, the character "八" is replaced with a dove.
This is a fine example of the thoughtful consideration unique to [Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine], which cherishes pigeons in various contexts.
If you would like a goshuin featuring a dove motif, please say, “Please write it in the ‘dove’ style,” when you present your goshuin album.
If you do that, you’ll receive a goshuin with the character for “eight” transformed into a dove.
One interesting thing about goshuin featuring doves is that there are actually many different types of doves besides this one.
Some pigeons look sharp and sleek, while others are cute or plump—their appearance and vibe change depending on who’s drawing them, so waiting to see what kind of pigeon you’ll get is part of the fun.
It might be fun to have a goshuincho filled with a wide variety of pigeons.

If you're thinking, "I'll go right away if I can get a pigeon-themed temple stamp!" but aren't confident in your stamina, we recommend taking the cable car.
To get from near Keihan Ishimizu-Hachiman Shrine Station up to the main shrine, you have to climb a long stone staircase.
Once you start climbing, you have no choice but to either make it all the way to the top or give up and head back down, so if you’re not confident in your stamina, it’s safer to take the cable car.
If you really want to walk, I think it's best to do so on the way down.
[Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine] features dove motifs in various places, so we recommend keeping an eye out for them as you explore the shrine.
If you're even slightly interested, why not pay a visit to the shrine and pick up a goshuin while you're there?
